Will we build a single custom home? No, we build only clusters of homes in the Puget Sound region where we can develop a sense of community. Ross Chapin Architects is a full-service architectural firm that offers single custom home design.
Where can I find out more about the Cottage Housing Development Code and other Innovative Housing Codes being pioneered here in the Pacific Northwest? We've posted the codes for the cities of Langley, Shoreline, Kirkland and Redmond, Washington. These innovative single-family land use codes are inspiring other communities. We would appreciate hearing about jurisdictions that have passed related codes.
I live far from Puget Sound-what can I do to create a cottage community? If you're motivated we suggest that you copy some pages of this web site and meet with staff at your local planning department. Ask them what it will take to get approval for a cottage project. If there is interest from the city, put together a group of 3-4 potential buyers. Interview several local developers or builders. Also ask around to locate an architect that specializes in smaller homes. It's likely you may put together a team to build a great project.
Can you provide planning and design services? At this time we are focusing on our own development projects and do not have a large staff to devote to outside work. However, we may be able to provide limited development consultation services for a fee, and we will consider a joint venture in the Puget Sound region.
What types of projects are you interested in doing? We are full of ideas and dreams. Besides our cottage courtyards, backyard cottages and linked yard neighborhoods, we'd like to be a part of developing a larger planned community, including commercial businesses. We are also exploring ideas to develop a cluster of single-family homes with shared open space as a model for rural development. If you have something that might interest us, including parcels of land in our region, let us know.
